Breakfast before a train at Austerlitz: a practical guide

How to plan a morning stop near the station, choose between eating in and taking away, and reach the platforms without turning departure into a rush.

Start with the time you actually have

Before choosing breakfast, check the departure time and the latest information from your transport operator. A platform change or access check can reduce your margin. Leave enough time between the bakery and the platform for the stop to remain relaxed.

Épi Gourmet is on boulevard de l’Hôpital, opposite the entrances to Gare d’Austerlitz. Being close helps, but it does not replace checking your train. If departure is near, say that you need takeaway when you order.

Keep breakfast straightforward

A hot drink and a viennoiserie are easy when time is short. With a wider margin, you can sit down and add something from that day’s selection. Products, set menus, allergens and prices may change: the online menu explains the categories, while the display in the bakery remains the current reference.

Ask what is available when you visit. The team can also suggest the most practical packaging if your order needs to continue the journey with you.

Eat in or take away?

Eating in works when you want to put down your bags and pause for a few minutes. Takeaway is safer when the platform has already been announced or when you prefer to clear the station entrance before eating. Either way, keep tickets, your phone and small belongings easy to reach.

The station is served by Métro lines 5 and 10 and RER C. If your journey begins with a connection rather than a mainline train, allow time to find the correct entrance to the network.

The last-minute check

Take one minute before leaving the table to check the essentials. A short routine prevents hurried returns and forgotten cups.

  • Confirm the time, platform and service status with an official source.
  • Keep the ticket or phone in an easy-to-reach pocket.
  • Check the table, chair and the spot where luggage was placed.
  • Take your rubbish and close drinks securely.
